Captains apology to fans & Club
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has apologised to the game and club for his reckless red card against West Ham at the weekend.
As a result the England captain will be suspended for three matches which will sideline him for Everton, West Brom & Chelsea over the next month.
The 28-year-old said: "I knew at the time that I misjudged it."
Watching live from the game i averted my original view that the referee got the decision incorrect but after seeing replays it was a poorly judged challenge.
The strikers 10 year anniversary from his debut was on Sunday with the match against West Ham portraying the good & the bad in Wayne.
Rooney added "It is a red card and I don't think it will benefit anyone to appeal against the decision."
The former Everton player was on the scoresheet in the 2-1 win before seeing red and prowling towards the tunnel with a surrounding applause from the Old Trafford faithful.
His third goal of the season was reminiscent of Robin Van Persie's first goal against Fulham. The type of finish and angle in which he caressed the ball into the right hand corner was sublime.
The striker finally added "I apologised to the lads. It was a dangerous situation in that they were trying to break on us but I have no complaints."
The back pages of the papers after the victory were unfairly dominated with criticism for the England international.
It was a red card in no circumstances it wasn't. It was a misjudged intention with the belief that if he would have slide tackled it would have been a yellow instead of kicking out for a red.
