Germany 2-1 Algeria Last 16
The Germans progress through to the quarter finals but it was not easy as they struggled against a fairly decent Algeria team. It took two late second half extra time goals to settle the win.
Algeria had been fantastic but could not hold off Germany as they opened the scoring just 2 minutes into extra time. It had been Thomas Müller on the left hand side to drill across a low pass to Andre Schürrle in the middle as he had flicked the ball into the right hand side giving the Algeria goal keeper no chance.
The Germans added another just minutes before the end of extra time when Mesut Özil had got into the box and laid the ball off to Schürrle were two Algeria players had been on the line. The Chelsea mans shot had hit the Algeria player and rolled out to Özil on the right hand side of the box as he bolted the ball into the left hand side of the goal.
Algeria did pull a goal back through just seconds later as Abdelmoumene Djabou had got on the end of a cross of the right hand side and fired the ball into the right hand side to give Algeria some hope.
In the first half Algeria played well and were very close to scoring as Islam Slimani had headed the ball in from an early cross on the left hand side. He had been a foot offside as the ball when crossed in had hit the post and been headed in. In the end it was the right decision from the linesman.
Germany came close to opening the score line just 10 minutes after the restart when the ball had found Philipe Lahm on the edge of the box as he had fired at shot aiming for the left hand corner.
With just 10 minutes left a great save kept Algeria in the game. A ball from the right hand side had found Thomas Müller Algeria keeper Rais M'bolhi.
Germany will now face France in the quarter finals however it is Algeria who are another team that have won footballing hearts with their fantastic desire and belief to win.
