Manchester United 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur- BPL Game 1

09/08/2015 12:09

Manchester United have won their first game of the season as Kyle Walkers own goal settled the win!

The own goal was the opening goal of the 2015/16 season an achievement which I'm sure he is extremely proud of.

United seemed to have kicked into gear after the going ahead with more of an urgency seeming present. However chances were their for Tottenham in the opening 45 minutes.

Christian Eriksen came closest when he got himself past the United defence but couldn't loop the ball over debutant Sergio Romero.

Prior to his hilarious error Walker did come close as he hurled through down the right hand side but was unable to beat Romero to the shot!

21 minutes of in truth Spurs dominance had took its toll and after a misplaced pass and a through ball down the right wing to Ashley Young. The ball across was sublime as Rooney would lay in wait for the ball to reach his foot and put United one up. However it hadn't worked like that as Walker came flying in to tuck the ball into the bottom left hand corner past Michael Vorm.

United then went on top and dominated the game as Juan Mata was given a second chance when the ball popped back up to him on the edge of the box however he dragged his shot wide!

The next chance would come in the second half and it would be for Manchester United as a floated ball to the back post had found Young free from defenders. Twisting and fake shots to lure the defenders in to turning their backs had worked as he had room for the shot but it spilled right into the hands of Vorm.

Spurs had turnt up the heat in the last five minutes of the match and looked extremely dangerous with Eriksen seeing his powerful shot parried out by Romero.

In the end Tottenham would get the goal they so desperately wanted and United would hold out for their first three points of the season!

Man Of The Match: Matteo Darmian
It could have go to Chris Smalling very easily as well however Darmian provided us with an excellent display of energy, defensive work and going forward as an attacking right back. He played so well in fact that comparisons to United legend Gary Neville have already arose.
