Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea- BPL game 9
Manchester United against Chelsea will always provide a special atmosphere and an amusing game as this one didn't disappoint.
United went into the game hoping to leap frog into a Champions League spot and that was nearly the case when Robin Van Persie's effort on 23 minutes as Chelsea's goalkeeper Courtois parred away.
Chelsea had struggled to get going in the first 45 minutes with Manchester United closing them down almost immediately but it was clear that no team was in control of the match.
Their seemed a fluidity to Manchester United's play although the odd mistake here and their provided us with a couple of hearts in our mouths situations.
A game locked in tactual chains looked more than certain to open up when Chelsea's Belgian sensation Eden Hazard dazzled through four United defenders setting himself one on one with David De Gea. It had been a tense couple of seconds as the wingers shot has been sussed out by De Gea and saved.
Much to the uplifting applause of the United fans it was only seconds later a Chelsea corner had put them one nil up. Rafael had been left marking the giant of Dider Drogba as he's header braced the goal. Reminiscent of his goal in the 2013 Champions League final as he peeled off towards the front post and laid the ball past the keeper.
Pressure mount for Manchester United as they pushed for an equaliser in the 38 minutes they had left after going behind.
Their was a problem with this tactic as pushing forward caused one of the best counter attacking teams to play their favourable tactic of sitting back and then springing an attack. This only happened on very few occasions but they were unable to threaten.
The dying minutes of the game were the ones were most celebration was required in the 93rd minute of the match Chelsea right back Branislav Ivanovic was sent walking for a second bookable offence. My opinion is that referee Phil Dowd made the right choice.
From the results foul on the right hand side it was Angel Di Maria's sweeping ball in that found Maraoune Fellaini whose bullet header had been pushed away by Courtois. The ball had fell to Robin Van Persie as he powered United back on level terms making the Old Trafford faithful erupt.
Louis Van Gaal said:
"We created a lot of chances, but we have to finish them. I'm happy with our spirit."
"I'm happy we responded after Chelsea scored. Once again, we turned a negative result into a positive one."
"I think we could have won. I think I've said that every game, but it's a good sign"
Man of the match was Adnan Januzaj he's dribbling and consistent work rate made him one of best players United he had seen on the pitch today.
