Manchester United 2-1 West Ham- BPL game 6
Manchester United bounced back for their unpredictable 5-3 loss to Leicester with a fantastic defensive display against West Ham.
Live at the match I got a first hand glimpse of the team in transition as it was a nerve racking experience.
The first half was eccentric with the atmosphere surrounding the ground bring a new buzz and feel to the place.
It had only taken five minutes for Manchester United to gain the advantage when Rafael Da Silvas cross had found Wayne Rooney obliged in the middle.
The striker did what he does best and slotted the ball into the right hand corner to raise the roof at Old Trafford. His fourth goal of the season as he tops the goalscoring charts at United.
An enjoyable first half was round off when half way through Robin Van Persie added another to his goal tally with Radamel Falcao providing the assist for the Dutchman do drive a shot into the right hand corner.
Pleasing on the eye as mouth watering sequences of passing whelmed to open up a West Ham defence.
A throughout problem occurred with West Hams striker Sakho heading past De Gea from a set piece to prowl the Hammers back into the game before the referees first half final whistle.
It felt like a continuous nerve moment when West Ham had a set piece with United clearing most dangerous throw at them.
Nail-biting, mind messing and heart racing moments as Manchester United started slowly in the second half and then were forced to invite pressure onto them.
Captain Wayne Rooney was sent off for which I thought personally was a professional foul but i retracted from that belief in seeing replays. The 28 year old clearly kick Stewart Downing as he & team mates where breaking away but definitely a red card.
Hearts in mouths was the formidable phrase you would use when two minutes from time substitute Kevin Nolan put the ball in the net to level things up.
Only for the linesman to put his flag up much to the relief and delight to Manchester United fans including me who was already contemplating how we could have drawn this game but turned out not to be a goal.
Louis Van Gaal said:
"We had to fight and fight and fight again. I'm very pleased with my players' attitude."
"We played very well in the first half – good attacking and effective football. Very dominant."
"I told them after the match when you fight like that you shall always be rewarded with a good result"
Man of the match was for me personally youngster Paddy McNair who was essential in his performance to step up and deliver in a weaned defence.
Here is a video of a goal saving clearance he made which was absolutely amazing! https://vine.co/v/OZgnz1TneEM
