Portugal 2-2 USA Group G

A late goal from Portugal kept them in the World Cup it was in the 95th minute. Cristiano Ronaldo had set it up Varela with a fantastic cross to save their World Cup dreams.

The game was very open in the first half with many chances and great saves from Tim Howard. In the first 45 minutes the Americans were good when they pressured but a couple of mistakes and they were behind through Luis Nani.

The first goal had come when a mistake in the middle had found the Manchester United winger Luis Nani on the right hand side. He had taken his time and fired the ball into the top of the net gifting his country the opening goals.

The United States equalised in typical style as 32 year old Jermanie Jones had picked up the loose ball from a corner and shifted the ball to
the left. As he had done this he got away from Nani and fired a shot at goal! The shot was unstoppable as Beto was unable to move letting it drive past him! A fantastic goal it had been.

The game was full of mistakes but Clint Dempsey scored in the 81st minute to what the football fans would have thought been the winner as he bundled the ball into the net from 6 yards out.

The win had been set for USA! As it seemed. The ball was won and given to Luis Nani who gave the ball out wide to Cristiano Ronaldo. The Ballon'dor winner had been quiet throughout the game but delivered a pinpoint cross to Varela who headed into the top right hand corner.

This is why we love the World Cup as the unexpected happened but the game was fantastic and very unpredictable as Portugal were also not at their best but USA are starting to show what a decent team looks like.
