24 minutes into the match when Ryan Giggs had been allowed to run at the Sunderland defence. The Welsh international had space outside the box as he's from 20 yards had taken a slight deflection and hit the cross bar and rolled away for a corner kick, the closest thing to a goal at the moment.
37 minutes had past as Patrice Evra had been given the ball on the left hand side and crossed it into the middle. The cross had found its way to Adnan Januzaj as he shot at goal inside the box. He's shot had hit Giggs and rebounded back to the youngster to tap into the bottom left hand corner but the linesman's flag had been up a fair decision.
Into injury time s Evans had fouled Steven Fletcher 10 yards inside the United half as the Sunderland fans hope for a goal. Sebastian Larsson had whipped a ball into the right hand side near the back post as Rafael had lost his marker Wes Brown. The ball had found the former United man as he played a ball back across the face of goal.The ball across the face had been rolled in by Giggs who was under pressure by Phil Bardsley. Sunderland fans go crazy as Man United concede their first goal of the competition.
At half time and a Ryan Giggs own goal in the dying seconds of the first half put the Black cats ahead.
Manchester United have put a lot of pressure on the Sunderland back four but have only managed to hit the bar.
Sunderland have played well defensively and were not really creating any real chances but have the much needed goal at the break.
6 minutes after the restart when Man United had won a corner on the left hand side. Januzaj and Cleverley had been near the ball as the centre midfielder Cleverley would take. The United fans had hoped for a way back into the match as the cross had come into the back post where Nemanja Vidic had been to thump the ball the ball past Mannoe and get Manchester United back in the gane. The United fans go crazy as red smoke and celebrations appear in the United end. That had been Vidic's first goal of the season.
62 minutes into the match when Adam Johnson had crossed into the back post were Vidic had been but his defense header had only found Larsson as he had looked to shoot at goal unmarked indide the box. The shot had been bouncing as De Gea pushed away fantastically to keep United in the game.
One minute later as substitute Adam Johnson had ventured into the box at pace. Midfielder Tom Cleverley had stuck a foot out inside the box at Johnson as he had gone down, the linesman had flagged viciously as the referee had pointed to the penalty spot leaving the Sunderland fans in disbelief. The pressure had been on the Liverpool loanee Fabio Borini as he took his time and fired straight down the middle into the roof of the net. Unbelievable as United concede their first penalty in this years competetion and it had been taken well by Borini as the Sunderland fans still look in disbelief at being ahead.
At full time and Sunderland go into the second 2-1 up after another loss under David Moyes. A penalty from Fabio Borini in the second half settles the win for the black cats.
Manchester United were poor in defence again as they looked very vulnerable, in attack the Red Devils hardly tested Mannoe and needed to have more shots on target.
Sunderland stayed in the game and got the winner which will crush David Moyes and bring a relief for Gus Poyet. A good quality win which will take the Black Cats to Old Trafford with confidence.
Next up for Manchester United is a home visit for Fa cup opponent's Swansea City who recently beat United.
