The Ukrainian freeze
After back to back loses to Manchester City and West Brom as Manchester United will look to bounce back in a Wednesday night European cup tie against a Club who have never lost at home to a English Club. Man United start Robin Van Persie as Wayne Rooney is out of the game with a shin injury also Danny Welbeck,Marouane Fellaini and Chris Smalling all start as Man United make 9 changes. Shakhtar bring in Luiz Adriano after their 2-2 league derby draw away from home. Shaktar make one change in defence as Oleksandr Kutcher drops in at centre back.
8 minutes into this match in the Russian cold when Tom Cleverly had got the ball in the middle of the park. The English midfielder had lobbed a weird ball over the top to Van Persie on the edge of the box as he had been on side. The Flying Dutchman had turned and had got away from Kutcher but the Dutchman's shot had curled just over of the top right hand corner as the travelling 600 Man United fans throw their hands in the air.
Halfway through the first half when on the right hand side as Man United had a throw in. The ball had been given to £27.5m Belgian Fellaini as he played the ball back out wide to Antonio Valencia. The right winger had no where to go as he had returned the ball back to Fellaini just inside the box. The United fans freezing cold as Fellaini had turned away from the defender and got to the byline as David Moyes looked on from the sidelines. Fellaini had crossed into the Shakhtar box but it had been a weak cross as the defender had stopped the ball from the cross. The ball had stopped as Danny Welbeck had came in to slip the ball into the right hand corner past the goalkeeper. David Moyes jumped for joy as some deal of pressure may have been relieved. That was Welbeck's first goal for Man United since his opening day brace.
6 minutes until half time when Manchester United had given Alex Teixeira space as the United defence had backed off just outside the box. Teixeira had curled the ball round Smalling but it had been an easy take by David De Gea who has been very quiet since the game started.
At half time as Manchester United go into the break one goal to the good. Welbeck's poachers finish from Fellaini's cross bring them into the dressing room ahead. The game has been even and for once this season Man United have defence well! David Moyes will be happy but Shakhtar are not out of the game yet.
6 minutes after the restart when Shevchuk had darted the down the right hand side as he had skipped past Rafael. The Donetsk fans rise as the ball had been fizzled across with pace and danger but the secure first team keeper De Gea had leaped to claim and hold.
70 minutes had past into the match when Rafael had burst down the right hand side in an attacking position as Van Persie had been next to him. The Dutchman had moved away to find space as Rafael had passed the ball to Van Persie with his back to goal. The Flying Dutchman who has been out recently, turned to find space but his shot had been blocked by Shakhtar's number 44 Yaroslav Rakitskiy.
75 minutes into the match when Rakitskiy had burst forward and had played a one two as the centre back had got the ball back just inside the box. The Ukrainian supporters had not stopped all night as their team had looked in a attacking position. Rakitskiy had crossed the ball through Michael Carrick's legs but Nemanja Vidic had hit the ball accidentally as it rolled out to Taison. The Brazilian had smacked the ball with real power as it rifled into the top corner above De Gea. Taison and the stadium erupt as they know the importance of that goal as the noise level begins to rise.
5 minutes left as Shakhtar had pressed the ball had been given into Adriano as he had played the ball out wide. The Shakhtar winger had crossed into the box but the cross had taken a deflection off of Chris Smalling leaving many hearts in mouths for United fans. De Gea had been quick to react and leap to push the ball over the top.
At full time and Manchester United had earned a draw. An opening goal from Danny Welbeck which had been a gift but then in the 70th minute as Taison's fierce power shot had rifled the net. Man United played well in the first half and defended their lead in the second but couldn't hold on but Moyes will take a point. Ryan Giggs broke another record making his 145 appearance in the Champions League over taking Raul. Next up for Man United is a trip away to Sunderland who are bottom of the Premier League on Saturday evening.
